Grove Guardians are living wooden protectors of the Onari's sacred forests, revered as expressions of Yuvan's will. Bark, branches and roots become formidable bodies; when Yukon assumes their shape, the grove's strength meets intruders with more than silent disapproval.

Description

A Grove Guardian belongs so completely to its forest that stillness can hide it among the trees. Its body is living wood, and its protection extends through roots, growth and the life around it. The Onari revere these beings as expressions of Yuvan’s will.

Yukon’s transformation makes that old reverence immediate. Branches become limbs, bark becomes armour, and opponents who expected a small intruder find themselves facing the strength of the grove. Defending the forest is no longer an abstract duty when the forest can reach back.

Background

These towering figures—sculpted from the elements of the forest: bark and leaf, root and branch—rise as silent protectors of the Onari's most hallowed spaces. Their height can rival that of the ancient trees they watch over, their forms composed entirely of living wood that creates appearances both awe-inspiring and uncanny. Each Guardian is unique, bearing characteristics of the specific grove they are bound to protect. Ancient entities believed to have emerged from the heart of Yaluma, the sacred grove, they are thought to be living embodiments of the first trees planted by Yuvan, the God of Nature, at the dawn of the Onari's connection with the forest. The faces of Grove Guardians, etched with the wisdom of ages, are adorned with patterns resembling the traditional markings of the Onari people. They are not a species but unique magical entities intrinsically linked to the health of Yaluma. Their well-being reflects the grove's vitality. To be chosen by a Guardian is a rare and profound honour, a sign one has been deemed worthy to learn the deepest secrets of the groves.
