Ragnorir

Faction

Summary

A fierce Viking-descended faction where storm and steel are one—warriors who command tempests and forge legends in blades and blood

Description

In the frozen northern reaches, where mountains pierce clouds and ancient forests whisper saga, stands Ragnorir—a faction forged from Viking blood and tempered by storm. Not merely warriors. Descendants of legends, children of thunder, heirs to a tradition that predates written history.

Purpose

When the Celestial Shattering merged realms and shattered the old world order, most civilisations scrambled to adapt. Ragnorir didn't need to. They'd been preparing for Ragnarok since the first longship touched foreign shores. The faction's culture revolves around a singular truth: strength is earned through trial, honour is proven in battle, and glory is measured by the legends you leave behind. Their territory is as brutal as their people—harsh terrain where only the strong survive, where volcanic forges burn eternal and the World Tree's roots run deep beneath frozen earth. Their healing traditions—passed down through generations—harness storm energy for restoration as readily as destruction.

Structure

Life-giving rains that mend wounds. Lightning that purges infection. Thunder that resets broken bones. This duality makes Ragnorir self-sufficient in ways other factions envy, capable of sustaining prolonged campaigns without external support. In the complex political landscape following the realm merging, Ragnorir maintains careful neutrality—not from weakness, but from strength. They don't need alliances.

Methods & culture

Don't need treaties. Their reputation alone ensures respect. When MI6 overreaches, when The Order becomes too zealous, when the Church pushes too hard—Ragnorir reminds everyone why you don't anger the descendants of those who raided coasts and toppled empires. But they're not isolationists. Ragnorir trades—weapons, storm-essence, magic items—commanding premium prices for their unmatched craftsmanship. Their warriors serve as mercenaries, though they choose contracts carefully, refusing any that dishonour their codes.

Influence

Some say they're testing the other factions, gathering intelligence, preparing for some future conflict. Others claim they're simply maintaining the warrior tradition, keeping their edge sharp for when the true threat emerges. Lad has made it abundantly clear that any who seek to claim their homeland will pay a price too steep for any sane leader to consider.
