Prowlers
Summary
Prowlers are great winged felines from Duskkin territory, their fur a mixture of shadow and starlight. Their magical camouflage can shelter more than their own bodies: when Yukon takes this form, his wings become a hiding place for an entire group.
Description
A Prowler brings together a great cat’s grace, an immense wingspan and fur that seems woven from darkness and stars. Its presence is tied to Duskkin territory, where the Duskkin honour it as a protector.
Yukon shows what that protection can look like in a London alley. Taking a form he once encountered on a mission, he spreads his wings around his companions and hides the entire group behind magical camouflage. Watching safely from beneath them makes the creature’s beauty immediately practical.
Background
These magnificent beings resemble enormous felines with expansive wings, their bodies woven from shadows and starlight, their fur a shimmering tapestry of the night sky. Born in ancient days when the first Duskkin faced annihilation by dark forces, shamans called to the spirits of the land for aid. In response, the mists coalesced, forming into the first Prowlers—protectors imbued with the land's essence. Their spectral nature grants them extraordinary abilities: they pass through solid barriers like wisps of cloud and glide silently through the air on wings that make no sound, unseen by all but the most attuned observers. A Prowler's gaze can pierce the veil between worlds, revealing the true essence of any being, mortal or otherwise. The bond between Prowlers and Duskkin has endured through ages—revered as sacred guardians and the living embodiment of the clan's connection to their territory. In battle, their spectral forms haunt the battlefield's edges, striking terror into enemies' hearts. But they are more than fierce protectors; they are guides and companions whose wisdom helps steer Duskkin society. For a Duskkin to hunt a Prowler through the sacred moonlit rite is considered the highest honour. Their blood grants the elusive phasing ability.
