Summary

A new MI6 recruit and wielder of the life-bound pendant Thyia, Ashai leaves home to uncover the truth about her parents with her guardian Greah. Their bond carries into combat: both their eyes turn blue in battle mode.

Description

Ashai can coax blue stars into the evening air, but at home even that small freedom is forbidden. Her uncle Slate has spent years keeping her safe and keeping her ignorant. When she learns that the accident which supposedly took her parents was a lie, she packs a satchel, wraps her mother's wooden doll in cloth and sets out for London with Greah tucked into a pocket.

Thyia responds to the life around her: trees, insects, the pulse of the living world. Ashai wants to understand that connection instead of hiding it. She is frightened, grieving and capable of slamming a fist on the table when someone mistakes protection for the right to decide her future. The search that draws her into MI6 begins with a very personal demand: tell me what happened to my parents. When Ashai and Greah enter battle mode, both their eyes turn blue.

Ashai exhibits a strong will and determination in the face of major plot twists or revelations. Despite her emotional nature, she's capable of relying on her skills and the support of those around her. In challenging scenarios, she's unafraid to engage in combat to protect others.

Blunt, clever, and mischievous in equal measure, she serves as a sharp-tongued guide whose humour cuts through the fog when others hesitate.
